Hello our lovely people!! We have some epic updates from the trail… sorry it’s taken a minute to post- we’ve been having too much fun!
Trail Magic!! It comes in all shapes and sizes 🙂
We have been simply floored with the amount of support and love from random strangers we’ve gotten on this trail. We’ve come to appreciate every act of kindness out here and hope to one day repay this debt. Here we have Tangled, Ladybug, and Mariner in front of a school house from 1894 stocked with goodies for thru hikers!
One of our favorite nights on trail so far has been at Trent’s grocery. We stumbled into this very random grocery store for a soda and a quick resupply, when the workers there invited us out back for some free dinner and drinks. Of course that turned into karaoke and us camping in their yard… the joys of trail and trail magic!
We got to experience some of our first real rain hiking… which ended in a few comical falls. We are definitely in for more rain hiking in the coming weeks, stay tuned for more rainy updates.
Trail Days!
THE MOST MAGICAL TIME EVER!! So Trail Days is an annual festival that takes place is Damascus VA (trail town USA) that celebrates everything Appalachian Trail related. The town comes together to host 20k-25k current and past thru hikers with a parade through the town, gear pop ups, raffles, music, and lots of food and drink. We camped in the iconic tent city, which is exactly what you think it is. Hundreds of stinky hikers set up their tents in the woods that surround the town and get up to lots of shenanigans. Some of those included secret DJ sets at Riff Raff (if you know you know) a drum circle, and wizards. We got to reconnect with lots of our original friends on trail that we’ve been separated from, and of course made many new friends (and covered everyone in glitter, because obviously saucy had to leave a mark).
New Challenges!
As we’ve moved our way through VA, so have our issues. We are facing some nasty blisters, tired legs, insane heat, never ending bugs, and a major lack of water due to the drought. Never fear, saucy is taking this all in stride, but the AT has definitely started to show her true colors.
We will spare you the pictures of our blisters and bug bites… but just know they are there and we are grumpy about them. In other news, we’ve hit 700 miles, we sneeze a lot with the allergies, watch a lot of Sex and the City in the tent, and hike a lot!
