Hello people of the universe! Saucyhikes here with yet another update from new states. We are currently at mile 1800 with only 400 miles left, and two states to go! Craziness.
Massachusetts!
We were truly fools to think the rocks would subside after PA. In fact, Mass was full of MORE vertical rock scrambles. The nice thing about getting up north is that all these rocks are finally starting to pay off with some beautiful views. Mass also brought some fun side quests in addition to hiking which consisted of seeing the Odyssey (11/10 film) and enjoying a real Mexican dinner in town! Ladybug and Cold Plunge both took care of their Lyme disease by taking 2 weeks of antibiotics, and they are both feeling a lot better now.
Vermont! More like Ver-mud…
Vermont was incredible, and also kind of awful. It was 150 miles of mud and rain and hiking up a river with bugs. Vermont tested our resilience in more ways than one with all of the trials and tribulations of the trail. It felt like everything for us compounded here with terrible weather and more ankle drama. Chameleon sprained her left ankle a third time, seems like a record, but nevertheless she persisted. Meanwhile, Ladybug got stranded at the top of Killington and had to find a side trail to make it down the mountain! Luckily ladybug saw a moose in VT and we did get some real views, so it surprisingly ended up being one of our favorite states!!
New Hampshire, land of small miles
A few days ago we hit NEWWW HAMPSHIREEE!!! Some gorgeous weather combined with views and wonderful hospitality means our spirits are high! Big thank you to the Johnsons, who put us up in their home. A shower and a bed goes a long way, especially after 5 months on trail
Ladybugs college friends came to visit in Hanover, where she ended up being kidnapped and went to spend a weekend in Boston! It was a wonderful taste of the real world and she got to see Selah’s DJ gig!!
So essentially, to sum it all up, we are alive, but sometimes barely. Up next are the Whites! We just started them today, and tomorrow will summit Mt Moosilauke…wish us luck! With only 400 miles left we expect to finish in about a month 🍀 ❤️🐞🦎
